‘RapeLay’ Video Game Makes Headlines Amid Fresh Outrage

March 30, 2010

(ChattahBox) – RapeLay has stirred controversy again after it was found that the game had been more widely released online, now available for free on many websites after being taken off of most markets.

The game simulates a series of rape scenes against three women, a mother and her two teenage daughters.

The story goes like this:

A girl on a subway train accuses you of molesting her one day. You, as the player, follow her onto the subway late one night when the platform is then empty. You can then choose from various methods of assault, following through to other scenes where you rape her, the other women, and even let other friends join in.

In one memorable scene, you can decide to get the girl pregnant and force her to abort the fetus.

The game has sickened many, and opened debate about whether or not Japan should be doing more to control what is placed into widely sold video games.

But for now, the issue for many women’s rights groups is the idea that you can easily download and play RapeLay for free on various websites.

It has also brought about some debate over the popularity of certain hentai games that show childish looking characters being raped and tortured, which has become more easily accessed since going online.

Equality Now is among the groups asking Japan to “to ban all games that promote and simulate sexual violence, sexual torture, stalking and rape against women and girls.”

“And there are plenty of games like that,” says member Taina Bien-Aime.

She does admit that it is “very difficult to curtail activity on the Internet. But the governments do have a role in trying to regulate this sort of extreme pornography of children, both in their countries, and through the Internet.”
