Bob Dylan Cancels Asia Tour After China Refuses Him Entry
April 7, 2010
(ChattahBox) – Bob Dylan has canceled his Asia tour after China refused to allow him into the country to play, the latest in a line of Western performers who have been banned from entering the nation.
Dylan was disappointed, and canceled the rest of his Asian shows, a decision sure to upset fans in Taiwan and Korea.
“China’s Ministry of Culture did not give us permission to stage concerts in Beijing and Shanghai, so we had no alternative but to scrap plans for a Southeast Asian tour,” a Taiwan promoter said of the decision.
This is one of several shows to be canceled due to China’s attitude toward performers from the West.
Bjork seemed to have started the frenzy, when the Iceland-born singer shouted pro-Tibet slogans during a show in Shanghai in 2008.
That same year, Celine Dion was denied entrance, a decision that sparked many jokes and more than one raised eyebrow.
