Naomi Campbell to Be Called as Witness in War Crimes Trial

June 30, 2010

(ChattahBox) – After refusing to address the courts, it has been ruled that model Naomi Campbell will be called to testify about a ‘blood diamond’ she was allegedly given by former Liberian President Charles Taylor.

Taylor stands accused of using diamonds as a catalyst for insurgency during his time as president in the region of Sierra Leone, which ended in 2003.

It is believed that he traded weapons and diamonds for the Revolutionary United Front, often mutilating civilians by hacking off their limbs.

According to the BBC, Campbell was at Nelson Mandela’s home in South Africa for a formal dinner in 1997. After that dinner, an aide of Taylor’s was believed to have gone to her room, offering her a gift from Taylor.

The gift was described as a large, uncut diamond.

She allegedly told other guests, including Mia Farrow and her former agent, Carole White. Both women have agreed to testify against the former Libyan leader.
