President Barack Obama to Appear on ‘The View’

July 26, 2010

U.S. (ChattahBox) – President Barack Obama is set to appear on the daytime television show ‘The View’, becoming the first president to ever visit such a show, the NY Daily News reports.

There isn’t much to say about this. The show will be shown on Thursday, and he will sit down with the ladies of ‘The View’, including the returned Barbara Walters.

What I want to know is: why? Why in the world would he do this?Appearing on a daytime talk show may seem like a way to address people in a friendly, casual manner. But do we really want our president doing that?

It reminds me of the UK, when former PM Tony Blair would seemingly appear every other week on ‘Richard & Judy’. It didn’t really help him, it cheapened his image, and it removed an element of the power of his office.

Now, President Obama is going to go the same way, providing sound bites on a catty, frankly vapid chat show that reads like a shot of estrogen.

I have to admit, if it weren’t already apparent, that I am far from impressed.
