Jon Stewart Responds to CNN’s Sanchez Jews Control Media Rant
October 3, 2010
(ChattahBox US News)—It was only a matter of time before Jon Stewart turned his finely tuned comedic talents on Rick Sanchez, the fired CNN host known for his frequent attacks of foot-in-mouth disease, who went on an anti-Semitic rant on a radio show, wherein he attacked the Jewish Stewart as a bigoted card-carrying member of the “elite, Northeast establishment liberals.” While hosting an autism charity event last night, Stewart quipped that attendees who may have followed in Sanchez’s path by ranting on the radio that “Jews control the media,” may want to rethink their contributions.
Sanchez, former host of “Rick’s List,” made his offensive remarks about Jews on Thursday, and by Friday he was out of a job. Sanchez is frequently used as a comedic punching bag by Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. While lamenting on Pete Dominick’s XM Sirius radio program that “all they ever do is call you stupid,” Sanchez proceeded to call Stewart a bigot. And he didn’t stop there.
Sanchez also took aim at his own employer, reasoning that the Jews controlled CNN, as well as the rest of the media. And thereby, he concluded that Jews should not portray themselves as a repressed minority.
“Very powerless people… [snickers] He’s such a minority, I mean, you know [sarcastically]… Please, what are you kidding? … I’m telling you that everybody who runs CNN is a lot like Stewart, and a lot of people who run all the other networks are a lot like Stewart, and to imply that somehow they — the people in this country who are Jewish — are an oppressed minority? Yeah. [sarcastically]“
Stewart responded to Sanchez’s anti-Semitic rant, while hosting Comedy Central’s “Night Of Too Many Stars.”
The Hollywood Reporter writes:
“Stewart brought up the issue in his opening monologue to “Stars,” which he hosted at Manhattan’s Beacon Theatre.”
“In talking about how people should donate for autism education, for which the show raises money, Stewart said: “If you went on radio and said the Jews control the media…you may want to hold on to your money.”‘
“But if Sanchez was right about the Jews, Stewart also suggested, “All he has to do is apologize to us, and we’ll hire him back.”‘
Later during the event, David Letterman and Tom Brokaw also piled on.
Letterman quipped, he was just in the city “helping Rick Sanchez clean out his office.”
