Surprise, Surprise, Lou Dobbs Lands at Fox Business
November 10, 2010
(ChattahBox Political News)— A year after being booted from CNN for promoting paranoid anti-immigration hate and birther conspiracies, Lou Dobbs has landed a gig with the Fox Business Network. The xenophobic Dobbs, who once falsely reported that diseased undocumented immigrants were bringing Leprosy into the country, has tried to soften his image since leaving CNN, with an eye towards politics. But at the same time, he has been speaking before tea party groups slinging incendiary anti-Obama rhetoric about the dangers of socialism. Dobbs will host his own show at Fox Business and will fit right in with the likes of Neil Cavuto.
The LA Times reports that Dobbs’ show will debut early next year.
“Just about a year to the day that he left CNN, Lou Dobbs is returning to cable news, this time as host of his own show on News Corp.’s Fox Business Network.”
“DOBBS Fox Business Network is expected to announce that it has signed Dobbs as early as Wednesday afternoon. It’s the latest high-profile hire for the cable network, which launched a little over three years ago and is in 57 million homes. Although that is far fewer homes than its chief rival, CNBC, Fox Business last week managed to beat CNBC on election night, both in viewers and the key adults 25-54 demographic.”
“Dobbs’ show will premiere in early 2011. He will also appear on other Fox Business programming.”
Dobbs was featured last month in an unflattering profile by The Nation magazine, entitled “Lou Dobbs, American Hypocrite.” The investigative piece found that, for years, illegal immigrants labored on Dobbs’ luxurious Florida estate and cared for his daughter’s prized show horses. Although he didn’t directly hire illegal immigrants, contractors working for the former CNN host did.
“Dobbs has heaped scorn on the government for using contractors that hire undocumented immigrants. On CNN in 2007, he called private firms that oppose verification requirements for their contractors’ employees “ridiculous.” Yet interviews with several such employees show that Dobbs has been far from vigilant about the status of workers laboring on his own properties,” writes The Nation’s Isabel McDonald.
After calling The Nation’s report a “hit job,” Dobbs admitted undocumented immigrants may have worked on his Florida property. And then Dobbs whined about being held “to a different and higher standard…”
Lou Dobbs has finally found a cable news home he can call his own.
