Male Hooker, Meth Over-Repenter Ted Haggard Stars in TLC Reality Show

January 7, 2011

(ChattahBox US News)— This is just so wrong on so many levels. The Discovery Channel’s TLC network announced a new realty show to its ever-growing freak show lineup. What is it? Disgraced former televangelist and megachurch huckster Ted Haggard will headline a show, called “Ted Haggard: Scandalous,” that will chronicle the rebuilding of the ministry of the former rabidly anti-gay fundamentalist Christian, who was forced to admit to a sexual affair with his male prostitute Meth dealer. The still-married father of five, says he hopes the show will “inspire others” to overcome hardships. What about overcoming self-delusion? Haggard insists that his sexual relationship with a male prostitute is not evidence that he is gay. In fact, Haggard later said, he “over-repented” for his sins. Whatever you say Haggard.

Ted Haggard’s “Scandalous” should come as no surprise, considering we are talking about TLC, home to such gems, as “Sarah Palin’s Alaska,” “Sister Wives,” and “My Strange Addiction.”

Entertainment Weekly reports:

“My family and I endured the darkest hours imaginable in the public spotlight, and have spent the last four years fighting and struggling to rebuild our lives, our faith and our family,” says Haggard in a statement. “Showing the world the new chapter of our lives will hopefully inspire others to find their own path to overcome their struggles and embrace the power of acceptance. The church is open to all, even those who have committed the darkest sins.”

“The special, produced by RelativityReal and debuting Jan. 16, follows Haggard as he announces his new ministry in Colorado Springs, Colo. — the same town he left after the scandal.”

Well, I for one, won’t be tuning in.

When he finally decides to come out of the closet, then he can make a ton of money by making ANOTHER reality freak-show.

Reading this turns my stomach. It seems that TLC will do anything to make a buck. I don’t watch TLC because it’s NOT a channel where you can learn much of anything, except how wonderful it is to have so many children that you can hardly count them, how to plan the “perfect” wedding, how a failed governor can humiliate herself by not having experience in hunting the way she says she does, and fluff about how women should look, dress, behave. None of this helps me learn anything. As usual, I’ll be watching the History Channel.
