Colbert Mocks Wis. GOP’s Kooky ‘Leftist’ ‘Organic Gourmet Food’ Rant (Video)

April 1, 2011

(ChattahBox Political News)— Comedy Central’s Stephen Colbert devoted a segment of his show last night to mocking Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker and his gang of lawless Republicans thumbing their noses at the rule of law. It took three Temporary Restraining Orders from Dane County Circuit Judge Maryann Sumi, until Walker’s goon squad decided to obey the law, and stop implementing their controversial union-busting bill, which is before Judge Sumi on a possible open meeting violation. “We heard you the first time,” Colbert quipped. “God, it’s like you’re Walker’s mom or something,” adding “Well you know what, you’re not the boss of him. Later in his segment, Colbert skewered the Dane County Republicans’ insane attack on Judge Sumi as a dangerous commie “leftist,” who ”shops at organic gourmet food shops.” The bizarro world of Republican Wisconsin politics is sure entertaining, but Walker and his minions are hurting Wisconsin workers.

When pointing out the Walker administration’s disdain for the law, Colbert said “Unfortunately this morning, Judge Sumi again, stubbornly insisted that Wisconsin does in fact have a legal system that must be obeyed, even if Republicans disagree with it.”

Colbert sympathized with Walker’s problems with “activist judges,” referring to the Dane County Republicans’ bizarre attack, as a “very classy extension of the olive branch.”

Below is the Dane County GOP’s insane attack on Judge Sumi:

“The Republican Party of Dane County recognizes that Judge Sumi is a leftist living in Dane County. Her friends are leftists living in Dane County. Her son is a left wing activist in Dane County. She goes to cocktail parties held by leftists in Dane County. She shops at organic gourmet food shops run by leftists living in Dane County. If she were to enforce the law of Wisconsin and do what was in the best interest of the people of Wisconsin, she’d be exiled from her lifestyle. She’d lose her friends!”

“The leadership of the Republican Party of Dane County have all made the choice to stand against the Dane County elite. We accept that Left feels righteous vandalizing our homes and keying our cars. It’s only fair. We disagree based upon logic and principle. That is intolerable! We prioritize the Constitution and the well being of the people of Wisconsin over foie gras at cocktail parties. That’s the choice we made. We respect Judge Sumi’s decision to live her life with the rich diversity that liberals cherish.”

Colbert said that Republicans are obviously not fans of foie gras, “although they do seem to enjoy sour grapes.”

They must have had someone with the mindset of a three year old throwing a tantrum write this letter. This is not a professional response to Judge Sumi’s decision. It’s a rant filled with ad hominem attacks. This is a very juvenile way to show displeasure regarding the judges’ ruling, and it should be embarrassing for anyone affiliated with the Dane County Republican Party.

    Hey Majii:

Thank you as always for your insightful comments. Yes the Dane County Republican Party is a laughingstock, but somehow I don’t think they see it that way. Republicans decry “activist” judges except when they are the conservative kind.
