Letterman Demands Trump Apologize for ‘Racism’
April 29, 2011
(ChattahBox Political News)—If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, it must be a duck. Despite denials from Donald Trump that he really didn’t mean to lob racist volleys at our first black president, it doesn’t change the facts. Except for the Fox News crowd, a number of high profile media personalities and journalists have recognized the blatant racism behind Trump’s birtherism and dog-whistle implications that Obama only got into Harvard because he’s black, including CBS’ Bob Schieffer. David Letterman, host of The Late Show followed suit last night, by slamming Trump for his offensive attacks on our President that “smack of racism.” And he warned The Donald that he had better apologize, if he ever expects to return to The Late Show as a guest.
Good for Letterman. It’s heartening to see public figures call out the buffoonish Trump for his despicable actions.
Letterman made his remarks to TV shrink Dr. Phil McGraw, a friend of Trump’s and a guest on the show Thursday night.
USA Today reports:
“It’s all fun, it’s all a circus, it’s all a rodeo, until it starts to smack of racism. And then it’s no longer fun,” Letterman told McGraw last night on The Late Show, referencing Trump’s comments about Obama’s education.
McGraw defended Trump, claiming he doesn’t have “a racist bone in this body.” Letterman wasn’t buying it.
“But Letterman made it clear that if Trump appeared on his show, he’d have to apologize. “If he comes back on this show, and I am not sure we want him back on this show under these circumstances, he ought to be prepared to apologize just for that kind of behavior.”‘
Earlier in the week, Bob Schieffer derided Trump’s racist behavior during a national newscast.
“That’s just code for saying he got into law school because he’s black. This is an ugly strain of racism that’s running through this whole thing. We can hope that kind of comes to an end too, but we’ll have to see,” Schieffer said.
Meanwhile Fox News and the paranoid post-birther right-wing are blaming President Obama and liberals for bringing up the “race card.” That’s right, the liberals made Republicans into crazed, paranoid birther conspiracy theorists, who will never, ever, accept the fact that there is a black man in the White House named Barack Hussein Obama.
