Supersonics' Durant Named NBA Rookie of the Year

Seattle Supersonics forward Kevin Durant has been given the honor of NBA Rookie of the Year..Boston (ChattahBox) – Seattle Supersonics forward Kevin Durant has been given the honor of NBA Rookie of the Year.

A panel of sportswriters and broadcasters gave Durant a huge number of first place votes to allow him to get the tremendous honor over some tough competition.

The 6-foot-9 inch forward from Washington won the award on Thursday night.

Coming in second was Al Horford from the Atlanta Hawks.

Durant got 90 first-place votes out of the 125 votes in total.

19-year old Durant told NBA.com “I didn't think I was going to win it. It's a great honor for me and the team.”

Durant led all rookies with 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 2.4 assists per game, missing only 2 games all season.

He becomes the first Seattle Supersonic to win the rookie of the year award.
