The Hall of Fame coach resigned on Monday. 37-year old assistant Spoelstra will be taking over for Riley.

Riley will remain the team president as he wants to oversee the rebuilding of the franchise which won an NBA championship just two years ago.

Miami finished the season with the worst record in the NBA, 15-67, which is also the worst of Riley’s 25-year career.

Miami had problems as Shaquille O’Neil got traded away to the Phoenix Suns, and Dwyane Wade was often injured

The Heat now look to the future and the NBA draft, as they could end up with a No. 1 pick in the draft, and will at least get a top-four pick.
