Tired of thinking? Fox News will help you out
October 22, 2010
(ChattahBox Op/Ed News) – There is a difference between a news organization presenting the news and one that tells you what to think. Several days ago liberal writer, political commentator and until this week employee of NPR, Juan Williams said what some might consider anti-Muslim statements while on the Bill O’Reilly show. Shortly thereafter NPR fired Williams for what they called statements “”inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”
Personally, I do not believe that Williams should’ve been fired. While his statements were insensitive and stupid they were not inflammatory nor did they rise to level of Rick Sanchez’ stupidity.Whether Williams firing was justified or not, is not the subject here. What happened after Williams was fired is.
Since the moment William’s firing was publicly announced Fox News has led an almost non-stop news assault on the subject. On virtually every single program they offer has has led his statement and subsequent firing. The folks at Fox appear to be outraged that their long time contributor was fired by NPR for statements Fox’s hosts make every day. They are outraged and the want their viewers to be outraged. They want their viewers to feel justified in their Islamaphobia and their disdain for NPR. And that’s the difference between a real news organization and Fox News. Real news organizations present to you the news with editorial commentary mixed in. Fox tells you what to think and sprinkles in news between their editorial programming.
I’ve written several critical (let’s be frank, damning) articles here about Fox News. The latest was on their declining ratings. While their ratings are slipping they are still the 900lb fib telling gorilla in the room. Their ability to disseminate their brand of the news is by far greater than any other news source. They don’t just project with theirchannel they also project their views with their dollars. This election year alone we’ve seen an one million dollar donation to the Republican Governors Assoc. plus another for a quarter mil. to the GOP. If 1.25 million isn’t influencing the debate I don’t know what is.
I’m not sure those who watch the (Evil) Empire’s station understand that they’re being told what to think. Or if they even care. I for one can’t stand the thought of being so mindlessly manipulated.
One thing is certain, they will continue to tell their viewers what to think and their viewers will lap it up. They will also tell Juan Williams what to think as well. He has two million reasons to follow their commands.
