UN Hosts Meeting To Confront HIV/AIDS, TB Infections
June 10, 2008
Boston (ChattahBox) - The United Nations set to hold a meeting on Tuesday to try and confront the growing number of TB and HIV/AIDS co-infections.
According to reports, 14 million people around the world are infected with both diseases. The meeting on Tuesday, the UN General Assembly High-Level Meeting on AIDS, will confront this problem and gain worldwide attention to it.
TB, which was cured years ago, is beginning to pop up in multi-drug resistant strains, causing many more deaths to those who have HIV.
A person with HIV is 50 times more likely to develop TB, putting those people at a very high risk for developing both.
