I am predicting that the source of the outbreak will be Mexico. If so, the tomatoes will have thus been harvested by legal residents of Mexico. Thus bringing us to the free trade issue rather than the illegal alien issue. If it turns out that unsafe farming practices in Mexico have ended up costing USA farmers in Florida and California, etc... millions, then some questions need to be answered. We should raise tariffs on targeted countries that have had poor sanitary practices (Mexico & China perhaps?) to fund more stringent sampling and testing for products coming from those countries.

Genetic engineered foods have nothing to do with this Salmonella issue. And by the way GE foods save millions because it increases the productivity of farms. Millions would die worldwide if we did not advance crop productivity.

One last point, we need the international labeling on foods NOW so that consumers can make informed choices on the foods they buy and put pressure on some of these corporations to stock with domestic products. My wife and I have noticed more USA-made toys in WalMart recently due to the China backlash. We need to have the same collective purchasing power over our food products.

This outbreak has nothing to do with agribusiness, it has to do with illegal aliens going to the bathroom in the fields, instead of in a toilet. Close our borders.

Consumers should be asking about the impact of having Genetically Engineered (GE) foods in the food supply. Why do these "outbreaks" keep happening? Huge "agribusiness/chemical/pharmaceutical" companies like Monsanto and Syngenta keep messing with the food supply and the FDA lets them do it. They have foisted untested and potentially dangerous food products into the marketplace with no thought for the health effects on the unsuspecting public. In Europe, GE foods are labeled or banned outright. Ask your legislators who they answer to, the voters or the agribusiness conglomerates? People's health should take priority over profit.
