HIV Cases Rising 12% Each Year Among Young Gay Men
June 27, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - A new report from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that the rate of HIV and AIDS in young gay men has increased significantly.
The CDC looked at data from 2001 to 2006 and found that the HIV and AIDS diagnosis rate increased the highest in men aged 13 to 24-years old who took part in male-to-male sex.
The rate of increase was 12% per year in terms of the number of newly diagnosed HIV infections.
The increase was seen as over 200,000 cases were diagnosed in total over that time period.
The CDC is stressing that it is important for people to get tested for HIV and AIDS to slow the spread.
The CDC released the report in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
