Cancer Cure Focusing On Transfusions Heads For Human Trials
June 30, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - Researchers from Wake Forest University will begin human trials to test out a cancer cure which was highly successful in testing on mice.
The new cancer treatment involved the transfusion of white blood cells into cancer patients. The white blood cells from from cancer-resistant donors, and are placed into the cancer patient.
The idea is that the white blood cells form an army of sorts, attacking the cancer tumor.
Scientists are excited about the start of the human trials, which recently won approval by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Every mouse they tested the treatment on ended up being successful. They will test it out on several types of cancer patients over the next months.
