Researchers have found that relaxation techniques actually allow your mind to control stress genes, turning them off and on.  These relaxation techniques include yoga, meditation, prayer, etc...Boston (ChattahBox) – Researchers have found that relaxation techniques actually allow your mind to control stress genes, turning them off and on. These relaxation techniques include yoga, meditation, prayer, etc.

Researchers were led by Dr. Herbert Benson of the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind, Body Medicine at the Massachusetts General Hospital, as they looked at those who took part in the study for a period of 8-weeks.

Those who took part in the study, including 19 long-term practicioners, as 20 new people, and 19 healthy control participants, went through relaxation-response training.

They found that by performing these relaxation techniques, your mind actually gains control over stress genes, giving you the power to shut them off.

The study has been published in the journal PLoS One.
