She died after collapsing while waiting, and was ignored by all staff. The fallout has resulted in several firings, and worry.

Elizabeth Green, a 49-year old woman, died while waiting for nearly 24 hours for the hospital to get her a bed. She was on the floor, and received no help from medical staff, doctors, security, etc.

All of the events were caught on video by a surveillance camera. New York Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg has stated that he is “horrified” by what he saw.

The New York Civil Liberties Union stated that this showed a “profound lack of respect for the humanity of people,” according to the New York Times.

In regards to the firings, the director of psychiatry, doctor on duty, and the director at the hospital were all terminated, with two nurses, as well as a security guard being suspended.

President of the Health and Hospitals Corporation, Alan D. Aviles, is launching a full investigation.
