State public health officials are advising residents to be on alert for the mosquitoes, as this marks the first evidence of the West Nile virus in the state of Massachusetts this year.

The West Nile virus caused two people to fall ill in Worcester, MA last year, and things could be even worse this year.

Those living in Massachusetts are being urged to avoid mosquito bites, staying away from outdoor activities during peak mosquito hours, from dusk to dawn.
