Many pets are scared of the noise and smells of fireworks during the holiday weekend, and run away from home.

Officials in U.S. animal shelters receive hundreds of phone calls today, as they have all weekend, with people trying to find their pets.

Reports state this has not been the busiest year on record, but it is certainly up there.

Things were contained this year as people were warned how to care for their cats and dogs during fireworks.
