French scientists carried out the study by looking at 21,000 intrauterine insemination (IUI) cases involving 12,000 couples over a 5-year period.

When a IUI is done, the sperm is specially treated and then inserted directly into the uterus. For the study, all sperms were examined for sperm count, motility, and morphology.

Men who were over the age of 40 were linked to a pregnancy rate decreased by nearly 10%, with the rates of miscarriages increasing as well.

The findings will be presented at the 24th annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Spain.
