West Nile Virus Confirmed In Long Island For First Time

The West Nile virus has been confirmed for the first time this season in Long Island...Boston (ChattahBox) – The West Nile virus has been confirmed for the first time this season in Long Island.

The New York State Health Department has come out and stated that the sample collected on July 1 came back positive as being infected with West Nile.

Comparing this to last year’s West Nile virus season, it has been detected a few weeks earlier. Health officials are keeping people calm though, stating there is no reason to panic.

West Nile symptoms include high fever, muscle weakness, etc.

Health officials are urging people to avoid mosquito bites by not going outdoors between dusk and dawn, as well as wearing clothing to cover your arms and legs, and use bug repellent.
