California Issues Big Fines To Blue Shield, Athem Blue Cross

California regulators have reached settlements and issued $13 million in fines to both Blue Shield and Anthem Blue Cross....Washington (ChattahBox) – California regulators have reached settlements and issued $13 million in fines to both Blue Shield and Anthem Blue Cross.

In total, Anthem Blue Cross was fined $10 million, while Blue Shield of California was fined $3 million.

The fines to the health insurance companies come as a result of a settlement reached, where they will be restoring health coverage to those whose policies they erased.

In total, 1,770 members from Anthem Blue Cross, and 450 members from Blue Shield will be impacted by this settlement.

There were the final two health insurance companies being investigated in the cases where patients had their insurance plans canceled due to various reasons.

Settlements have already been reached with others such as Kaiser Permanente, Health Net, and PacifiCare.
