Mississippi, since 2004, has ranked as the most obese state in the U.S., and the trend is continuing.

Overall, the South was found to be the most obese region of the U.S., with rural residents and black women topping the list of being the most obese.

Mississippi is joined by West Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana with an obesity prevalence of over 30%.

Experts have stated that the reason the South is more obese is due to the typical Southern diet of high-fat items, and fried foods.

The state with the lowest obesity prevalence rate was Colorado at 19%.
