Ever since the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has come out and declared that tomatoes are safe to eat again, the hope was that the fear of consumers would go away.

It appears though that the salmonella scare has caused consumers to remain very weary in regards to tomatoes. This is largely because even since the salmonella outbreak began back in April, the main suspect was tomatoes.

Federal officials had their investigation focused on tomatoes in both Mexico, as well as Florida.

Tomato growers have been pushing the FDA, and others to spread the message that tomatoes are safe tot eat again.

Despite all of this though, consumer fear is still present, and could hit the tomato industry hard.

The FDA is looking at raw jalapeno and serrano peppers.as possible sources of the salmonella outbreak, with the cases up to 1,196.
