The announcement was made by the Health and Human Services Secretary Miek Leavitt on Monday, as the push is on to try and get more medical professional to adopt the new technology.

The new plan in place will allow for incentive payments to go towards those who use e-percriptions.

The bonuses will start with a 2% incentive payment in 2009 and 2010, followed by a 1% incentive payment in 2011, 2012, and a 0.5% incentive payment in 2013.

By the year 2012, those not using the new technology will recieve a reduction in payment.

The belief is that e-prescriptions can cut down on medical errors, and are easier for consumers.
