An elderly woman who is living on Cape Cod in Massachusetts has tested positive and has been diagnosed with the rare brain disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease...Hyannis (ChattahBox) – An elderly woman who is living on Cape Cod in Massachusetts has tested positive and has been diagnosed with the rare brain disease, Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

She tested positive while at the Cape Cod Hospital for Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease, but poses no risk to the public as the disease is not communicable.

There is no cure for the disaese, which impacts one out of every one million people around the world.

The majority diagnosed are of people over the age of 60, and most die within a year.

On average, there are around six cases in the state of Massachusetts each year, and 200 in the U.S.

Symptoms include failing memory, behavioral problems, blurred vision, etc.
