Medical Genetics Pioneer, Dr. McKusick Dies At The Age Of 86

Dr. Victor McKusick, a medical genetics pioneer and a University Professor of Medicine at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, has passed away at the age of 86....Washington (ChattahBox) - Dr. Victor McKusick, a medical genetics pioneer and a University Professor of Medicine at the John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, has passed away at the age of 86.

Dr. Victor McKusick is a winner of the National Medal of Science.

He also founded the Johns Hopkins Division of Medical Genetics in 1957, before coming the chairman of the department of medicine, and chief physician in 1973.

Dr. McKusick is best known for his work linking diseases to genes, family history, etc.

Going beyond medical genetics, he also worked extensively on cardiology, as well as internal medicine.

He died in his home in Baltimore on Tuesday, due to complications from cancer, and is survived by his wife, daughter, and two sons.
