These are being caused by mixing prescription drugs with street drugs, and alcohol.

Earlier in the year, the death of 28-year old actor Heath Ledger caught national attention.

The Dark Knight star died of an accidental overdose of prescription drugs in his New York City apartment.

The latest report released here has shown that this is a widespread problem in the homes of many Americans, looking at data from January 1, 1983 and December 31, 2004.

The number of deaths from medication errors between those periods was 244,355.

The overall death rate from fatal medical errors increased by over 360% during that timeframe.

Fatal medical errors caused by mixing prescriptioin medications with alcohol and street drugs increased by 3,000% over that timeframe as well.

This is showing a growing problem as many in the U.S. do not know what to do and what not to do with prescription drugs.
