The one-year moratorium will go into effect as the city tries to deal with obesity problems, increasing the health of many.

The hope is that with this new one-year ban on fast food restaurants, the city will be able to draw in restaurants which have healthier offerings.

The obesity epidemic is widespread in Los Angeles, as many low income areas are flooded with fast food restaurants.

Los Angeles is hoping to attract new full service restaurants, grocery stores, and other healthy food locations.
