Generic Version Of Abbott Seizure Drug Gets FDA Approval
July 30, 2008
Boston (ChattahBox) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced the approval of the first generic version of the anti-seizure drug Depakote from Abbott Laboratories.
The FDA approval means that a new copycat version of the seizure drug will now be available, and will allow for people to get the drug in a cheaper form.
The drug is known generically as divalproex sodium, as the generic version will carry the same warnings. These warnings include birth defects, as well as risk of liver damage.
The drug is often prescribed to people suffering from epilepsy, and can also help treat bipolar disorder, as well as migraine headaches.
