A 54-year old farmer from Germany received the transplant surgery, as the man has been living without arms now for six years.

He has tried to use artificial arms, but has failed on more than one occasion.

He turned to doctors in Germany, who spent months setting up the operation. A major problem was trying to find a donor who matched the age of the patient, skin color, blood type, sex, etc.

They also had to make sure his body would not reject the new arms.

The entire transplant took over 15-hours to finish and was headed up by Christoph Hoehnke at the Technical University in Munich.

According to reports, the farmer is in very good condition right now, but it will be awhile before he is back to normal.

It is believed that it will take two years before he gets any type of feeling in his fingertips again, because the transplanted nerves will need time to grow.

The farmer is now going through phsyical therapy, as well as psychological counseling, as everything seems to be a success.
