California Faces Tough Road Ahead With West Nile Virus
August 6, 2008
Los Angeles (ChattahBox) - California seemingly has a very tough road ahead of them as the West Nile virus season continues.
California health officials have confirmed that the risk of contracting West Nile virus is as high as it has been in years.
To this point, 300 mosquito samples, as well as over 500 dead birds have been linked to the West Nile virus, with the fear that it could lead to record numbers.
Back in 2004, California was hit hard when 21 people died, and over 700 contracted the West Nile virus.
Officials are stressing that people can do things to protect themselves.
This includes staying inside during dusk and dawn, as well as removing standing water, and using protective clothing, bug repellent to your advantage.
