Lead investigator Yuqing Zhang of the Boston University School of Medicine led the study and looked at 8,000 people who were followed for 50-years and were involved in the Framingham Heart Study.

What they found was that over the last 50 years, Americans are drinking less alcohol than before.

They also found that Americans who do drink are choosing wine more often than beer, while the rate at which hard liquor is being consumed has not changes.

The number of people who stated that they are non-drinkers has also declined quite a bit.

Overall, people born later in the 20th century drank more than those born earlier in the century.

One interesting note though was that health-problems related to alcohol did not decline.
