The CDC report was released by the National Center for Health Statistics, and revealed that over the past decade, there has been a 26% increase in the number of Americans paying a visit to the emergency room.

The number of emergency room visits in 2006 was at 119 million compared to just 90 million in 1996.

The belief is that this increase is being caused by a growing elderly population, as baby boomers are getting older.

It was also noted that a person on average visits the emergency room four times each year now.

The most frequent visitors to the emergency room were infants, followed by the elderly over the age of 75.
