Losing Weight Can You Give Control Over Diabetes
August 13, 2008
Boston (ChattahBox) - A new study carried out by researchers at the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research has found that losing weight can help people gain full control over their diabetes.
For the study, researchers tracked how much weight 2,500 patients recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, gain or lost over a period of time.
Some of those with type 2 diabetes did not lose any weight, while others were able to lose around 20 pounds for a period of time.
Over a period of four years, those who lost weight, even for a short period of time, had better control over their diabetes.
They were able to have full control over their blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
As the study ended, almost all of those who lost weight, had gained it back.
These people though who lost the weight to start were able to continue controlling their diabetes.
The study hsa been published in the Diabetes Care, the American Diabetes Association journal.
