Federal officials have come out and estimated a 12% increase in Medicare drug premiums starting in 2009...Washington (ChattahBox) – Federal officials have come out and estimated a 12% increase in Medicare drug premiums starting in 2009.

Medicare recipients should start planning now for the increase, which will result in their premiums going up $3 each month.

The idea behind the release of the estimates is so that Medicare recipients are not shocked once they are actually put in place.

Starting in 2009, the monthly premium for standard drug coverage is expected to be $28.

Federal officials base these estimates on bids sent in from private insurance companies.
