The trial which was conducted in 1999, aimed to look at the side effects of the painkiller from Merck, Vioxx.

Researchers have reported in their study that the trial was only done though to help support a larger marketing campaign and not to actually improve the drug in any way.

Researchers made their discovery after looking at records Merck released during litigation.

The fear for many is that this is only the beginning, as ethical questions begin to pop up.

Many now believe that this could be a practice being carried out by other companies for drugs as well.

Merck & Co. has denied the allegations.
