Those who suffer severe facial damage, in the past really have had no solution other than to live with what they have been dealt.

This is changing though, as two studies published in the Lancet medical journal have revealed that face transplants can provide long-term solutions to these paatients.

Researchers in the studies looked at various face transplant cases to gather data.

One of the cases was of a Chinese man who had his face disfigured after a bear attack, while another was a french woman who was attacked by a dog.

French woman Isabelle Dinoire became the first to have a face transplant back in November 2005 after she was attacked by her dog, while the 30-year old Chinese man had his transplant shortly after, following a bear attack.

Researchers have found that though they have had rejection issues with the transplants, overall they have proven to be a major success to this point.
