Audit Says Claims Paid Incorrectly By Medicare Were Underestimated

A new federal audit has revealed that Medicare officials underestimated just how many claims were paid out incorrectly in 2006.......Washington (ChattahBox) – A new federal audit has revealed that Medicare officials underestimated just how many claims were paid out incorrectly in 2006.

These claims paid out incorrectly were for medical equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, etc.

The estimation was that Medicare paid out 7.5% of claims incorrectly.

The federal audit though cound that 29% of the claims in 2006 were paid out incorrectly.

The The new report was released by the Health and Human Services inspector general’s office.

The audt revealed that Medicare was not following policy by trying to match up the purchase orders from doctors.
