The study, led by Dr. Robert B. Saper of the Boston University School of Medicine and the Boston Medical Center, looked at a total of 193 of the medicines which were purchased randomly online.

They tried to focus their research on the medications that were made in the U.S., and found that 20.7% of those made in the U.S. had a high level of a toxin.

These toxins included mercury, lead, or arsenic and could pose health risks.

An alarming realization is that 75% of the ayurvedic medications which contained toxins, carried the FDA label stating they were manufactured with with “Good Manufacturing Practices.”

The least likely products to contain toxins came from the American Herbal Products Association.
