August 30, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) - 44-year old Michael Mastromarino from New Jersey has come out and entered a plea of guilty to illegally selling body parts for medical use.
According to prosecutors, the man, who owns the New Jersery-based Biomedical Tissue Services, is believed to be the ringleader of the national crime ring.
In the guilty plea, he admitted that he stole body parts from 244 people in total.
He worked with the Garzone brothers, Louis and Gerald Garzone. They own a crematory, and took part in receiving payments for the body parts.
Nearly 10,000 patients are reported to have received body parts from his services. Many contained HIV, cancer, etc, putting those recipients at risk.
He faces a series of charges including forgery, theft, conspiracy, abuse of corpse, funeral-home violations, etc.
This comes after he entered a guilty plea back in June as well.
This was to enterprise corruption, body stealing, and reckless endangerment.
He was sentenced to 18 to 54 years in jail already, but can now expect life in prison.
