The study was conducted using 51 college students, with a total of 102 hands.

Overall, they found 4,742 different species of bacteria on the 102 hands they looked at.

The right and left hands shared only 17% of the same types of bacteria.

Only 5 of the same bacteria species were actually found on every single hand, showing a great variety in bacteria.

On average, it was found that a human hand has 150 different species of bacteria living on it.

One surprise was that women were found to have a wider variety of bacteria species, more than even men.

This could be due to acidic skin, cosmetic products, as well as other factors.
