Researchers have found that the risk for sudden cardiac death is highest 30 days after a heart attack................Washington (ChattahBox) – Researchers have found that the risk for sudden cardiac death is highest 30 days after a heart attack.

The short period of time after a heart attack is key to the long-term survival and health of patients.

This has been backed up by a new study carried out at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis, and Mayo Clinic.

The study focused on a total of 2,997 people for a 5-year period.  They all had a heart attack between 1970 and 2005.

They found that within 30 days of having a heart attack, 24% of the patient died.

This compared to just over 1% of the patients who managed to make it past the first 30 days.

The study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association.
