Masturbation May Cause Cancer?

January 27, 2009

UK (ChattahBox) – A new study by the University of Cambridge has shown that men who masturbate frequently in their 20’s and 30’s are more likely to develop prostate cancer.

It may sound like some ridiculous anti-sex propaganda from the 1950’s, but as it turns out, masturbation has shown to increase the risk of prostate cancer, when done frequently in the 20’s and 30’s, in 34% of men. This is compared to the 24% control group, and so a significant increase.

The activity seems to have no discernible effect on men in their 40’s and older who masturbate frequently.

“Hormones appear to play a key role in prostate cancer and it is very common to treat men with therapy to reduce the hormones thought to stimulate the cancer cells,” Polyxeni Dimitropoulou, the lead researcher on the study, explained.

“A man’s sex drive is also regulated by his hormone levels, so this study examined the theory that having a high sex drive affects the risk of prostate cancer.”

However, men in their 50’s, specifically, seem to enjoy a protection from prostate cancer, with small amounts of sexual activity.

“A possible explanation for the protective effect that men in their fifties appear to receive from overall sexual activity, and particularly masturbation, is that the release of accumulated toxins during sexual activity reduces the risk of developing cancer in the prostate area,” Dimitropoulou said.

“This theory has, however, not been firmly established and further research is necessary.”

I’m curious as to what the baseline is when they say “masturbate frequently,” especially as compared to a control group (no masturbating at all?)

As they said :“This theory has, however, not been firmly established and further research is necessary.” , so I think masturbating is ok
