Setton Pistachio FDA recall expanding

April 8, 2009

(ChattahBox) — More than 2 million pounds of pistachios were already recalled last week that came from Setton, the second largest pistachio producer in the country.  But because the FDA has found positive salmonella tests on equipment at the plant of Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, the California company has voluntarily recalled all of its products made in 2008, which were shipped out to dozens of food companies, except for raw in-shell pistachios. Most pistachios sold in stores are roasted The recall includes pistachios sent in bulk to 28 states and 14 countries outside of the United States.
The FDA cannot yet say how many additional products may be recalled, and it could take months to figure out every pistachio product that might be unsafe to eat. In the meantime, the FDA is telling consumers not to use any pistachios or foods with pistachios unless the agency can confirm that the products do not come from Setton’s recalled stock.
