Hormone Replacement Linked To Lung Cancer Death

June 3, 2009

California (ChattahBox) – A new study out of Harbor-UCLA has found that women who develop lung cancer while undergoing hormone replacement for menopause have a 60% greater risk of dying from the disease.

The results have caused doctors to begin warning patients currently smoking to stop taking the replacement therapy, and for those who are smokers and thinking of beginning to weight the pros and cons, before quitting smoking and beginning HRT.

“Women almost certainly shouldn’t be using combined hormone therapy and tobacco at the same time,” research lead Dr. Rowan Chlebowski was quoted as saying on HealthNews.com.

This is the second cancer shock to come from HRT, after it was found in 2002 that the hormone drug Prempro increased the development in breast cancer.
