Global Warming Will Result In Fewer Hurricanes Forming
May 19, 2008
New York (ChattahBox) - A new study has shown that global warming will actually result in fewer hurricanes forming over the Atlantic Ocean each and every year.
The study, which was carried out by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. goes against the common belief that global warming increases the number of hurricanes that develop each year.
This new study has found that warmer temperatures in the Atlantic Ocean from global warming actually reduce the number of hurricanes that form.
To carry out the study, researchers simulated the progression of global warming over the Atlantic Ocean through the 21st century and found that warmer temperatures led to 27% fewer tropical storms, and 18% fewer hurricanes.
The study has been published in the journal Nature Geoscience.
