The new study was carried out by the Brookings Institution and looked more than 100 metropolitan areas in the U.S.

According to their study, 50% of the metro areas cause 56% of all carbon emissions across the entire U.S.

Comparing the East Coast and the West Coast, the East Coast had higher carbon emission levels due to reliance on traditonal energy sources, as well as harsher weather causing the need for heating and cooling systems.

The West Coast, including California are leading the way with new rules on carbon emissions, making strides towards improving carbon emissions.
