North Pole Ice Threatened, May Melt Away This Summer
June 28, 2008
Washington (ChattahBox) – Scientists have come out and stated that this summer may be the first in recorded history where all of the ice on the North Pole melts away.
Global climate change has taken its toll on the North Pole ice, as the ice has been thinning year after year.
In past decades, ice would build up in layers on the North Pole, years at a time. In more recent years though, there is a new thin layer of ice that forms, and then melts away.
This summer could prove to be the first year that boats, oil-drillers, etc. will be able to reach the pole without having their path blocked by ice.
Last year, the ice melted within 700 miles of the North Pole, threatening it but not quite reaching it. This summer could end up being that year where the North Pole has no ice.
